Blend

(Blend)

Creating coffee blends from different regions involves more than technique. It demands intuition, experience, and fine-tuning. A successful blend seeks harmony, never uniformity. It happens when the body of one lot, the acidity of another, and the aroma of a third complement one another without cancelling each other out.
At Spring Valley, blends are treated as signatures. Halisi, our original blend since 2009, is the result of many tastings, adjustments, and deliberate choices. When many lots give rise to one identity, we know a delicate balance has been carefully cultivated.

Where all of Kenya harmonizes. When the blend is perfect, the signature is born.

  • SL28 and SL34 lots

  • Ruiru 11 and Batian lots

The blend as an orchestra

Creating a blend is like composing a musical piece. Each lot has a specific role, and together they harmonize.

Body

The base that supports the flavour.

It is the orchestra’s double bass. Without it, there is no solid ground.

Our dense, full-bodied lots, roasted a little further, are chosen for their volume on the palate. They give structure and weight, with a strong sense of presence that extends the taste.

Acidity

Brings brightness, freshness, and energy. Fruity notes that lift the profile.

The violin: lively, expressive, emotional.

High-altitude coffees, especially SL28 and SL34 from Nyeri and Kirinyaga, offer brightness and tension.
They bring a controlled acidity reminiscent of blackcurrant, citrus, or white wine, which is essential for adding freshness and elegance.

Persistence

It is the flavour that stays. Notes of cocoa, vanilla, brown sugar.

The clarinet: the warm sound that remains after the silence.

Some lots, especially medium-roast ones, can extend the flavour after each sip. They express notes of cocoa, vanilla, or brown sugar, which define what the memory of the coffee will be.

Balance

It defines how the whole expresses itself. It highlights, balances, and refines.

The conductor who sets the tempo, the intensity, and the timing of every entrance.

Balance is not a destination. It is a direction.
It steers how each element arises: whether the acidity stands out, the body softens, or the sweetness intensifies. By simply adjusting the balance, you can completely transform the profile of a blend, even when using the same lots.

The art of Spring Valley blends

Our blends are made of time, testing, and intention

The precision behind the flavour

We select, taste, and compare. We give room to science and space to intuition. This is how we ensure the Spring Valley character in every blend, in every batch, every day.

  • Lot selection

We assess the lots rigorously by cooperative, profile, and quality. Only the best proceed to the blend.

  • Consistency guarantee

Each lot is measured against consistent standards. The same quality, cup after cup.

  • Technical cupping

We invest in sensory trials to assess aroma, flavour, acidity, and body.

Our blends, signatures for every moment

Since 2009, we have created signature blends, each with its own profile and its own kind of coffee lover.
